Blair Athol Mine funds historical restoration
The Clermont and District Historical Society will help preserve the local region's rich history thanks to a $1,522 donation from Rio Tinto Coal Australia's Blair Athol Mine.
The Clermont and District Historical Society will use the funding to improve the displays and buildings at the Clermont Museum.
"The Clermont Museum is an important facility in our community that reminds us of this region's history, its progress and how it has embraced change," Blair Athol Mine general manager operations Andrew Cole said.
"We have a long standing relationship with the Clermont and District Historical Society and applaud them for their efforts in ensuring our local history is preserved for many years to come.
"We recognise the importance of supporting the local community in which we operate and we understand how crucial the museum is to our region. So we are pleased to be an active member of the community and lend our support."
Blair Athol Mine's donation consisted of all proceeds from the Rio Tinto barbecue hosted at the recent Clermont Museum 20th anniversary celebrations.
"There are lots of things that need to be restored and this donation will help us continue that work," Clermont and District Historical Society president Alistair Lawrence said.
"On behalf of the society I would like to thank Blair Athol Mine for its generous donation and for the mine's continued support over the years."
